Teen Olympic skateboarder’s parents promised her a pet if she won gold: ‘I just want a duck’

Try for the Olympic champion!

Arisa Trew, a 14-year-old skateboarder, competed in women’s park skateboarding at the 2024 Paris Olympics and was hoping to win more than a gold medal.

«My parents promised me if I won the gold medal, I would get a pet duck,» she told a press conference. «They’re really cute, then I can take her for walks and take her to the skate park.»

After scoring 93.18 on her last run, Trew knew her desire for a duck would be hatched.

«My parents definitely wouldn’t let me get a dog or a cat because we’re traveling so much now,» the teenager told Australia’s Nine.com.au. «But I think a duck might be a little easier, and … I don’t know, I just want a duck.»

Its August. The seventh gold win was historic as she is now the youngest Australian Olympic medalist, overtaking Sandra Morgan, who took the top prize for swimming in 1956 at the age of 14 years and 183 days.

Trew won her gold medal at the age of 14 years and 86 days.

The young skater remains the only woman to land a 720, two full rotations, in competition and the only woman to ever land a 900, Today reports.

«I feel wonderful to have the gold medal around my neck,» she said. «It’s been my goal since I saw the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. It inspired me and made me want to come to this Olympics and get on the podium.»

Trew returned to the world of skateboarding at age 8 after looking for an activity he could participate in year-round, unlike surfing, a popular sport in Australia.

Throughout the year, the teenager sharpens her skateboarding skills at LVLUP, an academy and school on Australia’s Gold Coast, while also focusing on academics.

Assuming her parents will follow through on their promise, she will now have to share some of her attention with her little duck on the way.

With almost all her ducks in a row, Trew has one thing left to do: name her new pet.

Her first choice? Goldie.
